Beautiful Emerald Coast Views

After our beautiful gulf views at Old Pavilion, we drove north to Miramar Beach on the panhandle of Florida for a different gulf view at a campground appropriately named Camping on the Gulf.  While the view at Old Pavilion was of the eastern gulf on the western shores of Florida, the view at Camping on the Gulf was of the northern gulf on the south of the panhandle of Florida.  Miramar Beach, located close to Destin, Florida, has beautiful white sand beaches and turquoise water that is rare to find anywhere else in the United States.

Our campsite was not located directly on the water at Camping on the Gulf, but it was only about a 5-minute walk to the beach.  Our campsite had full hook ups and was on a large concrete pad with a picnic table and grill.  We were located close to the very clean and modern bathrooms/showers and the laundry facility; in fact, on our first evening there, we did some laundry after watching a beautiful sunset.

On our second day at the campground, our only full day there, we spent almost the entire day at the beach, where we were able to rent beach chairs and an umbrella.  In the late afternoon, the winds were picking up but we were again able to enjoy the sunset.

That evening, we walked less than a mile to a restaurant called Outcast Seafood, where we ate boiled shrimp with corn and potatoes.  The restaurant was located across the street from a large outlet mall called Silver Sands Premium Outlet Mall.  Sadly, most of the stores in the outlet mall were closed after we had our dinner, but we made a purchase at the Old Navy Outlet store and Tim got some gelato at Pino Gelato CafĂ©.  On the walk back to the campground, we stopped at the Alvin’s Island souvenir shop to look around.  Back at the RV, we went to bed a little early as we had to wake up earlier than usual the next day to travel to our next destination.

Review of Camping on the Gulf, Florida
Camping on the Gulf (formerly Camp Gulf) is located on U.S. Highway 98 (Emerald Coast Parkway) on the beachfront on the panhandle of Florida near Destin, Florida.  The campground has 215 RV sites (16 located on the beach), 20 cabins, 7 yurts, a Beach House that sleeps 15-17 people.  The RV sites are full hookups sites, except for the 16 located on the beach, which do not have sewer hookups.

The campground has two pools, one with a large waterslide. There is also a pond located near the center of the campground, where you can find turtles.  Of course, if water is what you want, the campground is located on the beach!  As discussed above, you can rent beach chairs and umbrellas on the beach.

The campground has three very clean and modern bathroom/shower facilities, and a large laundry facility.  It also has a store where you can purchase some food and beverage items, and souvenirs.  The campground has a large activities center, with activities such as pool tournaments; yoga; arts and crafts; game nights; and potluck dinners.

There is a truck vendor located on site during the spring and summer, called Pudgy Pineapple; however, there are many restaurants within walking distance of the campground.  Also in walking distance is a large outlet mall, shops, bars, grocery stores, and more!

We really loved this facility for many reasons.  First and foremost is that it is located on the beachfront.  Second is that it has large concrete sites for RVs.  Third is that it offers amenities you need like laundry.  Fourth is that it is in walking distance to so many restaurants, bars, stores, etc.  We would definitely consider returning to Camping on the Gulf for a longer period to enjoy all that it has to offer.
